At first, Travis couldn't stand the sight of Old Yeller.
The stray dog was ugly, and a thieving rascal, too. But he sure was clever, and a smart dog could be a big help on the wild Texas frontier, especially with Papa away on a long cattle drive up to Abilene.
Strong and courageous, Old Yeller proved that he could protect Travis's family from any sort of danger. But can Travis do the same for Old Yeller?

I have been wanting to read this book to my oldest for the longest time. This year I figured K was ready for it being as he was about to be 13. I am not sure if they read this book in school anymore but if not I wanted him to at least read a classic story. K and I really enjoyed Old Yeller now you may get a bit teary-eyed at the end and that is to be expected. We follow Travis and Old Yeller as Travis runs the farm when his father is away on business. We see how Old Yeller wins over Travis and them two cannot be separated. The adventure they will go on and the trouble they will be in.  K really enjoyed Arlene and what he put his brother through. Especially all the rock throwing and running around naked in the drinking water. There is laughter and heartache and the movie is the same way. If you haven't read Old Yeller you really should, this is one classic book that is one to own.
